Regarding change, I have found that people tend to underestimate two things:
The degree of change that is necessary
The degree of change that is possible
Whenever you want to change or help somebody else change, keep in mind to tell both parts of the story. Only conveying the message that "a lot has to change" will scare people if they are not aware of how much is possible. This can lead them to reject the overall message because it is too frightening. That kind of fear is the death of change.
